How To Get Through Dark Times In Life

We all have hard times growing up.  Sometimes life really is tough, especially if you’re just going through hard emotional times.

As a young man, my first long term girlfriend was trouble, and led me to some dangerous and illogical decisions and choices in my life.  Her problems ran deep, and I don’t want to relive them so I won’t go any deeper than what I said in the previous sentence.

Once our relationship was totally broken, I was lucky to have family and friends to help me isolate from the pain of my girlfriend’s problems.  It was so bad that I even decided to change to a new college (I helped my girlfriend go to the original college as I was going to).

It took me years to get my girlfriend and her problems out of my head.  It was very complex situation and in the end I’m the one who left (which made me even feel worse).  I really cared deeply about her, but her issues pulled me mentally into dark and horrible places where I didn’t want to be.

So my point is that sometime you get into such dark moods and places and need help to find your way out.  Untested people (and the media) don’t understand what you are going through and the way that you can get kind of crazy when under such pressure.  I was lucky, I knew how destructive my path would have been had I stayed.  Actually it would have been destructive for the both of us.  Sometimes with people, much like certain chemicals, things don’t mix well and explode, no matter how much they care about each other.

So the point of this post is to describe how to get through these dark periods in your life.

  • Family and Friends help, but only if they understand and come from a similar background.  If they don’t have depth in such areas, they can hinder and hurt more than help.  So this option depends!
  • People that have similar backgrounds and can help in many ways.  Sometimes going outside of your circle of friends helps!  Support groups maybe be the answer, again it depends…
  • Music… knowing that even the best and most successful of us have problem that they had to overcome helps.  After a while, try to mix some uplifting and exciting music your listening too, so that you can improve your mood.  Nothing is worse than dwelling on your pain, which is kind of what I did.  It’s a time and life killer, if it it does on too long.
  • Fake it until you make it.  This line of thinking is if you fake being happy, eventually you will be happy.   This works, especially after you hit rock bottom and feel like there is no way out.  Why not give it a try.  You are your own emotional keeper, you control your thoughts, you can become whatever you want to become!

And now that my reasoning is layed out for you, I want to introduce a song from NIN that was my favorite song for few years during some of the most dark periods in my life.  I may have listened to it for too long, but it was cool and made me realize that everybody does though some rough patches:

Here is an uplifting song, that while a bit light, is still fun. I epecially like the lyrics “I’m in the race but I’ve already won, and getting there can be half the fun”.

While I would have like the song above, it came after the dark times in my life, below is a song that worked for me, especially when I was in the martial arts. it got me pumping and I would perform better as I would play this in my head but at a faster rate of play.

Here’s one more song that I liked (and my first exposure to rap). It was a great song and luckily, I didn’t see the video until much later…

I’m not sure why this article came out of me, but it’s Saturday (which is my anything goes day) so I thought I’d share.

Road Rage, Realize The Enemy Could Be You!

Road Rage! now they have a smart phone application out for it…  but the problems is that to use the app, you have to type the license of the offending driver into the smart phone (not an easy task even when you are not driving!).  So if you take the risk of typing a “hard to type” license plate, aren’t you basically being an irresponsible driver too?  So wouldn’t that make you a hypocrite?

I have a friend that once he finds out about this smart phone app, I’m sure he’s going to purchase it, but should he?

Whenever my friend drives, he looks for things to complain about on the road…  He’ll say “That lady is going to slow (usually by 3 mph) in the slow lane, so he’ll speed up like a maniac till he’s almost hitting her back-end, then he’ll swerve into the other lane, floor it, and then cut in front of her by the thinnest of margins.  I’m sure the target of his anger has to put on their brakes commonly out of fear.  This trend happens every time…

My friend has an economic 4 cylinder small car (kudos to him for being green!) and it’s a bit nerve-racking to be a passenger when he swerves in from of a semi-truck with a trailer!  But that’s exactly what he does!  Nobody likes to have him drive when we all go to lunch!

So my friend calls almost everybody else an A-hole on the roads, but in reality, he’s the worse offender of all on the pavement!

Oh sure, he gets mad and I suggest that it wouldn’t bother me and I repeat that everybody is like that or that’s probably happened because that person is so young…  But these comments I make just slip off of him like burnt eggs in a teflon pan…

So I ask, no I beg everyone, when you are on the road please don’t get unreasonably angry!  It doesn’t do any good, and the person that you are directing your anger at isn’t going to change!

Do you have friends like mine, or is he just an extreme case?

Why We Should Not Believe Bernie Madoff!

According to the Yahoo article “Madoff to NY newspaper: Banks ‘complicit’ in fraud”, Bernie claims that the Banks were complicit to what Bernie was doing.

First, why should we believe Bernie?  He’s proven himself to be not trustworthy (and that’s being nice)!  He ripped off thousands of investors that thought he was legit.

Perhaps he thinks that he can testify against the banks in some way and that somehow the banks really made him create his Ponzi scheme, maybe he thinks he can even get a reduced sentence?  Perhaps he believes that he can redirect the blame or cause as much damage to society as possible by stripping away the confidence in the banking system?  Who knows…

Here’s a guy that had an incredible history with the financial system.  Shoot, he was chairman of the NASDAQ stock market!  Why would you think that he had a Ponzi scheme going on, if I were a bank employee, I would think that he’s legit too.  Perhaps this is why the government didn’t investigate this man either!

I don’t think the bank executives are naive enough to get involved in a Ponzi scheme, and for Madoff to say, that the banks were aware of what was going I’m sure is inaccurate.  What bank executive/employee, in their right mind would help fuel a Ponzi scheme if they knew about it.

I think he’s a man that’s beat and will spend the rest of his life in prison.  So why not try and mess with business/people.  I’m just disappointed in the journalist that picked up this story like it’s real news…  come, this guy has no credibility whatsoever!

I know that a lot of boomers move a lot of their money into high yield savings account like the American Express Savings account after Bernie stole the money from so many other boomers.

Please, please don’t believe anything Bernie Madoff says!  And shame on the media for picking this story up and acting like it’s legit!

Unrest In Egypt, Is It Any Of Our Business?

Egypt Map

There are protesters in Egypt, but do we really have any right to voice our opinion?

As far as I can tell the protests are about corruption, poverty and other issues?  It took me a few days after the protest began to learn the causes, along with many journalists.

So now that the president said that he wouldn’t rerun (after 30 years as president) and that changes would be made to the process, why are people still out in the streets protesting, disrupting their fragile economy basically making themselves weaker?

Watching TV, I’ve seen a few hundred protesters at certain location, but I know that there are thousands from what the journalist say.

But why continue?  It seems like they won, the looting should stop and the businesses and employment that feed families should be able to re-start trying to get life back on track again…

Since the protests are still continuing, kids aren’t getting feed, and families are suffering!  So this has now enabled a backlash from the people against the protesters.  This backlash group called “Mubarak supporters” are said to be larger that the protest groups, and they aren’t happy.  So now the groups are battling each other.

To me, it seems like the protest created change and that enough is enough… unless they don’t really want a democracy and are being fueled by religious zealots?  Perhaps this is an attempt to overthrow the entire democratic process, perhaps setting up a government that is more similar to the Iranian government?

I admit, I don’t know who the backers of what is really going on over there are, but I don’t think our government shouldn’t be voicing our opinion, and telling the egyptian authorities what to do.  It’s their country and based on the rise of the “Mubarak supporters”, maybe we should measure twice and cut once before making demands of an ally?

Afterall, I don’t hear the French or German governments telling the Egyptians how to think and what to do.  Perhaps this is the reason that we Americans are often viewed as being arrogant?  I think we need to butt out and realize that what is happening is really none of our business, and that by our stepping in, both side will hate us in the end.

I find it ironic, that when Iran had demonstrators and protesters, we sat back and clammed up, but for an Ally, we had to put our two cents in…

I don’t know what going to happen, and I wish the Egyptian people the very best!  The thing is they are going to come to a conclusion without us putting demands on the egyptian government or people.

What do you think?  If you were an ally would you appreciate that the US is on the other side?  Wouldn’t that make you upset?
