The INTERNET is everywhere and all powerful!
I just recently made a call from my computer using the new gmail phone/voice option! It worked like a champ, and was free. It also had the added perk in that it didn’t have a call back number associated with it!
That got me thinking, what all could I do from the internet?
Here is a quick list that I came up with:
- Become a writer! There are sites that will pay you to write articles for them (including some of the pf blogger sites like www.sweatingthebigstuff.com). Of the top of my head, www.wisebread.com, Examiner.com and eHow are large site that pay writers too.
- You can buy groceries online
- You can order merchandise and books from the likes of Amazon.com.
- Video chatting is a great way to visit far away friends!
- Online gaming…
- Heck, you can even go to college and get a degree online.
- Meet potential dates online at www.match.com, and really kind of even date online!
- Via video, learn to repair cars or other diy tasks.
- Take free online (non-credited) classes from MIT https://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm, they are called Open Courseware courses.
- Free downloadable audio books: https://librivox.org/
- There is too many free fun things to do online!!!
It’s no wonder we are so busy with our computers, they are no longer a luxury…. but instead. an extension of our daily life!!!

It also allows you to have a mail order business from just about anywhere with much lower overhead than printing catalogs. Plus, you save a few trees in the process.
@Sandy L
Ahhh, good point on the green aspect. Especially when you use the internet as the path to download ebooks to the kindle and other ebook readers!
I think you are right, the internet is having an impact on the printing businesses too.
Pretty cool, eh? 20 years ago nobody used the internet at home.
Now imagine in 20 years from now…
as much as it has progressed, it is still relatively in its infancy. think about when it hits critical mass like TV and radio did few decades back? can you imagine the global revolution?
Google is going to take over the world!
I feel bad for Skype- they worked so hard to be the leader for the VOIP calls but now google is going to take over their market share.
Internet has really taken the world by storm- all this social media stuff- twitter etc. has changed the way a lot of people live their lives (not necessarily in a good way)
@Kevin@InvestItWisely
Exciting stuff. By then we’ll have robots that are connected to the internet. When they need to download information to do a task, they will be able to do so. Much like in the matrix.
I’d like to guess more stuff (like cars integrated with the internet), but the entire thing is, nobody knows exactly all the cool things coming down the pipe!
@Sunil from The Extra Money Blog
I feel like the internet is starting to become instrumental in everybody’s life already. All my neighbors have internet access, so I don’t feel like it’s new anymore.
But I do think thay the creative juices around the internet are still flowing, creating great things especially as the infrastructure keeps improving!!!
@youngandthrifty
Google is is becoming a whale of a company! They are more than just the internet. They have far reaching hands. But you are right, the internet and google are starting to sounds a lot like the same. Good thing they aren’t evil!!!
I think you are right about the social media, I already spend too much time on it, and I’ve basically just started using twitter… I haven’t done much with the other yet (including facebook).
I love it and am so glad I was born in the 1980’s…I’ve had the internet since I was 10 or so at home. I’m so spoiled…
